Coup for NZB Winter Sale

NZ Bloodstock’s Winter Sale has received another boost with the entry of four stakes-winning mares.  The supplementary entries are being offered through Gordon Cunningham’s Curraghmore Stud draft on behalf of Christchurch-based owner Ray Coupland.

The New Zealand Bloodstock Sale is set for Sunday, 1 August at Karaka.

“I’ve got a lot of horses around me now and my passion is racing,” Coupland said earlier this week.  “I’m looking to concentrate on that side of my involvement by offering the breeding stock for genuine sale.”

Coupland’s biggest thrill to date has been racing the outstanding mare Princess Coup who was a four-time Group 1 winner in her homeland and she also grabbed a G2 in the MRC St George Stakes at Caulfield.

Princess Coup was sold to Tony Bott for $3 million at the 2009 Magic Millions National Sale.  He was acting for E Thoroughbreds and the mare is in foal to a December cover by Lonhro.

The four supplementary lots at the NBZ Winter Sale are:

LOT 127  TE AKAU COUP (THORN PARK)
Group 2 Matamata Breeders’ Stakes winner offered in foal to Darci Brahma whose first crop yearlings sold up to $480,000 at Karaka earlier this year.

LOT 128  BESTY COUP (JUSTICE PREVAILS)
2001 NZB South Island Filly of the Year also in foal to Darci Brahma.  Dual-stakes winning mare who won seven races from 1000m up to 1600m.

LOT 129  FLYING COUP (TUSCANY FLYER)
Listed Canterbury Belle Stakes winner in foal to Group 1 July Cup winner Sakhee’s Secret.

LOT 130  KIMS COUP (KIMS COUP)
From the four-time winning Centaine mare Marcastle.  She is in foal to Darci Brahma’s Stravinsky half-brother Saperavi.
