Concrete Johnny can perform on any surface and a Heavy 8 didn’t present any problems on Launceston Cup day.
The God’s Own sprinter won the Launceston City Council Hcp (1200m) with a perfectly-timed gallop under Raquel Clarke. “It was a super ride in front,” trainer Terry Evans said. “And he’s such a brave horse to tough it out.”
Concrete Johnny (4g God’s Own – El Milagro by Encosta De Lago) had raced in the LR Gold Sovereign at the 2014 Launceston Cup meeting but faded badly in the straight after taking a tearaway lead. “Back then, I expected him to develop into a very good horse later on,” Evans recalled. “He’s a pleasure to have in the stable.”
Concrete Johnny is by Greta West Stud sire God’s Own from a mare who won races at Sandown and Moonee Valley. He’s a younger brother to Tasmanian Guineas winner Inner Warrior and they’ve earned over $270,000 for syndicate managed by Adam Upton named the Horse Racing Tragics.
