Dabang delivered the first win for Westbury Park resident He’s A Decoy in the Westspeed Hcp (1600m) at Ascot on Wednesday.
The Shane Quilty trained filly was facing the starter for just the third time and she had to work hard crossing from an outside gate to camp outside the leader Thunderclap Newman. Apprentice Ellie Cockram kicked clear at the top of the straight and Dabang found plenty to score by three-quarters of a length.
Dabang (3f He’s A Decoy – Colourband by Spectrum) cost Loloma Farm owners Kevin Fowler and Kelly Everett $8,000 at the 2012 Perth Magic Millions Autumn yearling sale. She is a half-sister to Fancy Feet (Fath) who won twice at Ascot last year and was also placed in the LR Natasha Stakes and LR WA St Leger.
Their dam Colourband won over 2000m at Kembla Grange and she is a half-sister to G3 Qld Tattersalls Cup winner Captain Test (Dehere).
He’s A Decoy (In The Wings) is a half-brother to Danetime and is based at Westbury Park in Pinjarra. He was 2yo Listed winner in Ireland and returned at three for a Group 1 placing in the Irish 2000 Guineas.
Westbury Park owner Phil Ibbotson also stands Lucky Unicorn (Redoute’s Choice) and has added Smug (El Prado) to the roster for 2014. The trio are all available at a $4,400 (inc gst) service fee.
