Damsire double for Zabeel at Moonee Valley

Zabeel is already the Cox Plate’s most successful sire with four individual winners and his name was added to the broodmare sire list when Ocean Park stormed home at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Ocean Park (4g Thorn Park – Sayyida by Zabeel) is marking time in advance of a possible start in the MacKinnon Stakes at Flemington this Saturday.  He will be gunning for a fifth Group 1 win in a row if given the go-ahead by connections.

Ocean Park had numerous battles with Silent Achiever (4g O’Reilly – Winning Spree by Zabeel) last season at three and ironically they both recorded significant victories at Moonee Valley.  The latter looked right back to the form which saw him win the NZ Derby last season when swooping to victory in the G2 Crystal Mile (1600m) on Saturday.

Zabeel (Sir Tristram) has a huge lead in the Australian Broodmare sires’ premiership, a title he won for the first time last season.  This season alone Zabeel is already damsire of the Group 1 winners Commanding Jewel (Thousand Guineas), It’s a Dundeel (Spring Champion Stakes) and Ocean Park.

Overall, Zabeel mares have foaled 990 individual winners of 2,900 races.  There have been 101 stakes winners among that total with Southern Speed topping the earnings list at $2.81 million.

The 2011 Caulfield Cup winner is followed by fellow millionaires Ocean Park ($2.65m), Samantha Miss ($1.76m), Headturner ($1.59m), Faint Perfume ($1.45m), Natural Blitz ($1.25m), Darci Brahma ($1.18m) and Purple ($1.13m).
