Eliza Park freshman Danbird sired his second winner when Western Raider swept home in the $100,000 Inglis Plate at Warrnambool on Thursday.
Western Raider (2c Danbird – Pylades by Dehere) loomed up at the furlong and then produced a remarkable burst to win by close to two lengths.
Danbird sired his first winner when Royal Dalton won at Cranbourne on April 5. He then added some black-type when placed in the LR Anzac Day Stakes at Flemington.
A full brother to 1999 Golden Slipper winner Catbird, Danbird was a precocious two-year old, who won the G2 Pago Pago Stakes and was runner up to multiple G1 winner Regimental Gal in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
Western Raider is from Pylades, a winning half-sister to Ledger (Hennessy) who notched the last of his five wins to date at Rosehill in December. Pylades has a filly foal by Written Tycoon.
Choilaine (Choisir) and Hold That Song (Hold That Tiger) filled the placings at Warrnambool.
Bred by Lemrac Lodge, Western Raider was foaled, raised and sold by Eliza Park. He is trained locally by Matthew Williams who picked him up for just $16,000 at the 2008 Inglis Melbourne Autumn Sale.
Danbird (Danehill – Fitting by Marscay) will stand for a $5,500 fee at Eliza Park this year.
