Dandino to Bombora Downs

Bombora Downs will stand international Group performer Dandino (GB) at Bittern on the Mornington peninsula in 2016.

Dandino (Dansili) was initially trained by Marco Botti for northern hemisphere wins in the G2 Jockey Club Stakes (2400m) at Newmarket, G3 September Stakes (2400m) at Kempton and LR American St Leger (2700m) at Arlington.

Transferred to Australia for the 2013 Melbourne spring carnival, he was runner-up to Fawkner in the G1 Caulfield Cup and bowed out of racing with a G3 victory in last year’s Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Flemington.

“Dandino was a delight to train,” Botti said.  “A real gentleman in every sense of the word, his class and adaptability enabled him to race with longevity on many different tracks with ease.”

While with Botti, Dandino proved himself as one of the best 2400m horses of his time travelling from England to Germany, Japan, North America & Hong Kong and running to an international rating of 115.

Originally owned by the Elite Racing Club, he was purchased for $900,000 by Darren Dance’s Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock and was later transferred to Weir.  “Dandino has a terrific temperament and the turn of foot he showed was fantastic,” Weir said.  “That’s something you rarely see in a horse with his stamina.”

Dandino is a son of Juddmonte Farm’s Danehill stallion Dansili who is responsible for 19 Group 1 winners and over 100 stakes winners.  His dam Generous Diana (Generous) won the Lionheart Stakes at Doncaster and her latest foal is a 2yo filly by Foxwedge that was bought for 65,000gns (AUD 145,530) by Hugo Lascelles Bloodstock at the 2015 Tattersalls October yearling sale.

Bombora Downs studmaster Christoph Breuchert will stand Dandino for a $5,500 (inc gst) service fee.  “Breeders need access to staying blood and, from the moment we saw him, we felt Dandino is the right horse,” Breuchert said.  “He will be available for inspection as from next week and when breeders see him, they will book mares.”
