A three-quarter sister to Dansili stakes winner Tenth Star proved the star lot on Day 2 of Arqana’s October yearling sale on Tuesday evening. She was sold to Laurent Benoit’s Broadhurst Agency for 265,000 euros.
The Danehill Dancer filly was offered from the Niarchos Family’s Haras de Fresnay. They race Tenth Star with Coolmore and the Aidan O’Brien trained colt won the LR Golden Fleece Stakes at Leopardstown before finishing second in the G2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket last time out.
“She is an outstanding filly, who has everything,” Benoit said. “I have bought her for Mr Duquesne, who has had a great season with Prix Vermeille runner up Testosterone. This filly will also go into training with Pascal Bary.”
The session-topper is out of the unraced Rahy mare Alpha Lupi. Second dam East Of The Moon is a half-sister to Kingmambo.
Sons of Dansili also proved in demand at Arqana. His colt out of Listed winner Squaw Dance (Indian Ridge) was knocked down for 120,000 euros to Angus Gold. “He will go into training with Francois Rohaut,” Gold said. “He’s a great individual who can only improve.”
Gold has been particularly active this week on behalf of Sheikh Hamdan. He has bought 8 yearlings so far for an aggregate of 795,000 euros.
The four day Arqana sale is divided into two parts, with the higher-profile Part 1 on Monday and Tuesday. Turnover for the two sessions of Part 1 was 6.78 million euros at an average of 38,135 euros. The clearance rate dropped 8 points to 71% compared to 79.8% in 2010.
“Both the average and median prices for the first two days are identical to those of 2010,” Arqana president Eric Hoyeau said. “The number of horses catalogued in Part 1 remained the same as last year but the clearance rate slipped as some individuals proved below the standard expected at a select session.”
Part 2 continues on Wednesday and Thursday. Full catalogue and updates are available on www.arqana.com.
