Brisbane flyer Didntcostalot won the LR George Moore Stakes (1200m) with a wing on every hoof at Doomben on Saturday.
In a runaway victory reminiscent of his sire Danerich, he scorched over the distance in 1.08.17s which was only a fraction outside the track record held by Takeover Target. “He’s airborne this horse,” trainer Tony Gollan said. “He’s just gone to another level and had a couple of smart ones off the bridle today.”
The Doomben result gave Rangal Park sire Danerich his 7th stakes winner. “We’re not going to stop with him yet,” Gollan added. “He will run in the (LR) Lough Neagh Stakes (1350m) back here in a fortnight.”
Didntcostalot was initially trained by Marc Conners and made headlines from the outset when clocking a track record on debut at Wyong in October 2011. He had been knocked down to Vern Rayner’s Classic Bloodstock for just $3,000 at the 2010 Magic Millions National Sale and has now earned $513,745.
His dam Costi (Encosta De Lago) has a yearling colt by Cardinal Virtue and a colt on the ground by Bianconi.
Danerich doubled up in Hong Kong on Sunday when Brilliant Dream won the Chevalier Lifts & Escalator Hcp (1400m) at Sha Tin. The David Hall trained gelding has won three races this season and his total prizemoney now stands at $3.97 million (AUD 713,105).
“He makes his own luck and has been easier to handle with maturity,” Hall said. “Some might think he’s exceeding his ability but he’s relaxing and not wasting energy. I won’t be surprised if he can win in Class Two.”
Rangal Stud owner Eric Buttler stands Danerich for an $8,800 (inc gst) fee.
