Unbeaten British colt Reckless Abandon has been purchased by Sheikh Mohammed.
Reckless Abandon (2c Exchange Rate – Sant Elena by Efisio) is a graduate of the 2011 Doncaster Yearling sale where Hungerford based trainer Clive Cox bought him for 24,000 pounds (AUD 36,575). He will remain with Cox until the end of his three year-old season and Darley has also leased him back to current owners Julie Deadman and Stephen Barrow.
Reckless Abandon won his maiden at Doncaster and followed up with G2 victories in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot and Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte prior to a G1 triumph in the Prix Morny at Deauville last month.
“He is a colt blessed with remarkable speed,” Blandford Bloodstock’s Richard Brown said. “He hails from the family of champions Storm Cat and Royal Academy and will be a great addition to Darley’s stallion roster when the time comes.”
Brown brokered the sale but the price was not revealed. Earlier this year, Sheikh Mohammed purchased unbeaten juvenile Dawn Approach from Irish maestro Jim Bolger.
