American filly Jealous Again, a stunning winner of the G2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, has been purchased by Sheikh Mohammed. She has been transferred to Darley’s American-based trainer Tom Albertrani.
In arguably the most dominant juvenile display seen in England so far this year, Jealous Again swept aside the home defence with a runaway five-length victory at Royal Ascot. It was the best field assembled for the Queen Mary in the last 10 years but the winner made the rest look second-rate.
Respected trainer Clive Brittain, who prepared runner-up Misheer, was happy enough with his filly. “I knew she was the best of the English runners.”
Bryan Smart, trainer of the third-placed Ceedwell, stood by his pre-race comments that the Exceed and Excel filly is the best he’s had for a long time. “But the winner was exceptional.”
Jealous Again (2f Trippi – Chi Sa by Bold Ruckus) is by End Sweep’s G1 Vosburgh Stakes winner Trippi from a winning daughter of Canadian Matron Hcp (LR) winner Sinister Spinster.
She failed the make the cut for the select session of the 2008 Ocala Yearling Sale in Florida last August. California trainer Wesley Ward, who maintains a Florida stable in winter, was able to pick her up for a mere US$30,000.
Ward kept a quarter share in the filly which would have made this week’s mark-up all the more sweeter!
