Irish nursery Woodlands Stud will increase its roster of former Darley sires with the arrival of Byron in time for the 2011 season. The Green Desert horse had his first juveniles appear this year and 8 of them have won 14 races to date.
Woodlands is owned by Deirdre Lusbie and Kenneth Cullinane and is based in County Galway. They already stand latter-day Darley stallions Grandera and Moon Ballad.
Byron stood the 2010 season at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket. Now a 9yo, he was a G2 winner of the Mill Reef Stakes and Lennox Stakes. He was also third in the G1 French 2000 Guineas and retired with 3 wins from 12 starts. His dam Gay Gallanta was a G1 winner of the Cheveley Park Stakes.
The Green Desert sireline is alive and well in Europe through Invincible Spirit and Cape Cross. The next generation will flourish with the first Sea The Stars foals due in a week or two.
