Darley shuttler Any Given Saturday moved off the mark in Australian when Saturday Skies saluted at Ascot on Wednesday.
Saturday Skies (2g Any Given Saturday – Panoramic Skies by Perugino) crossed the field to lead the Westspeed 2YO Plate (1000m) and didn’t shirk the task in the straight to deny Magic Halo (Danehill Express) and Guessing Game (Key Business).
The Ascot winner comes from the family of stakes winners Razor Blade, Sunburnt Land, Doubtful Jack and Curtana. His dam Panaromic Skies has a yearling filly by Strategic and recently foaled a Domesday colt.
Prepared by Ted Martinovich, Saturday Skies was a $30,000 buy from Kambula Stud at the 2011 Adelaide Magic Millions. He also sourced very promising sprinter Cavallo Pazzo at the same venue. The Not A Single Doubt gelding cost $22,000 at the 2009 Adelaide Magic Millions.
Saturday Skies was also a timely winner for Yarradale Stud. The Gidgegannup nursery will offer the first Australian yearling from Any Given Saturday’s second crop at the 2012 Perth Magic Millions next month. Catalogued as Lot 283, the colt from Marscay mare Avonmore is from the immediate family of G1 winners Miss Margaret and Dreamaway.
Any Given Saturday (Distorted Humor) sired 10 winners among his first northern crop of two year-olds in 2011. He was a G1 winner of the Haskell Invitational defeating Curlin and he shuttles from Darley Kentucky to its Victorian base at Northwood Park.
