Darley treble at Dubai World Cup

Dubai’s 2011 World Cup night was an unparalleled success for Sheikh Mohammed.

Seven races at G1 and G2 level attracted participants worldwide and it started with a South African flavour when J J The Jet Plane (Jet Master) nosed out Australian bred sprinter War Artist (Orpen) in the G2 Al Quoz Sprint.

Japan capped an outstanding night’s racing with a World Cup quinella that pulled the heart-strings.  Victoire Pisa (Neo Universe) and Transcend (Wild Rush) controlled the race from the front-end and refused to surrender in the straight.

Darley colt Monterosso finished third and Sheikh Mohammed moved among the Japanese contingent to both congratulate and console the overwhelmed winners.

The Darley brand bagged a winning treble on the support card starting with Skysurfers (E Dubai) in the G2 Godolphin Mile.

The G2 UAE Derby was a triumph for the fillies with Darley homebred Kwahlah (Cape Cross) defeating Coolmore colt Master of Hounds (Kingmambo) by a nose.  Australian bred filly Mahbooba (Galileo) finished third.

Rewilding (Tiger Hill) landed a third feature for Darley in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic.  His older half-sister Dar Re Mi (Singspiel) captured the $5 million event last year and he followed her lead under a patient ride from Frankie Dettori.

Rewilding won his maiden in November 2009 at Maisons-Laffitte.  He returned last year for a four length win in the Listed Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood in May and was third home to Workforce in the G1 English Derby in June.

He resumed for a four length victory in the G2 Great Voltigeur in August but disappointed as an even-money favourite in the G1 English St Leger in September.

Sheikh Mohammed’s bloodstock advisor John Ferguson paid 500,000gns for Rewiliding at Book 1 of the 2008 Tattersalls October yearling sale.  Besides Dar Re Mi, he is a half-brother to Darazari and former NZ based sire Kilimanjaro.

Darazari was a G2 winner in France before transferring to Lindsay Park to add an Australian G1 in the STC Ranvet Stakes.
