Darling View pensions Patronize

Darling View Thoroughbreds has announced its stalwart stallion Patronize has been pensioned from stud duties at Mundijong.

The news coincided with Patronize 4yo Swim Through winning the Clinton Fuller Hcp (1000m) at Belmont on Saturday.  He was in the good books with punters as the $2.70 favourite and it goes without saying Patronize has always been a favourite at Darling View.

“What a great old stallion he has been for us,” stud manager Brent Atwell said on Saturday.  “He’s been a super-consistent sire and a gem to have on the farm.  He will live out his days here at Darling View.”

Patronize sired Swim Through from Swimmer (Bernardini) who was a $50,000 buy for Gervase Park owner Chris Gales at the 2018 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale.  She is a winning half-sister to Nettoyer (G1 Doncaster Hcp).

Just turned 21, Patronize sired his first winner with his first starter Jestpatim.  The Darling View-bred youngster had been an eye-catching third on debut in the 2012 Magic Millions 2YO Classic and he followed up with a four-length victory at Ascot.

Jestpatim won the last of 11 races at Esperance in March 2017.

Patronize is a Redoute’s Choice three-quarter brother to Exceed And Excel and was raced in partnership by Kia Ora Stud’s Ananda Krishnan after changing hands for $750,000 at the 2004 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

A serious hoof injury derailed his early campaigns and his career was limited to four starts as a spring 4yo.  He finally stepped out in a Gosford maiden to score by two lengths under Hugh Bowman.  Venturing to Newcastle, he displayed a devastating turn of foot to win in a tick outside the track record that had been held by G1 Golden Slipper winner Marauding for over 15 years.

Patronize has sired 11 Stakes performers and his 121 individual winners have arrived at an outstanding strike-rate of 72%.
