Dash For Viz wins grand final at Flemington

Dash For Cash was always going to play a big hand in the TCL Electronics Plate at Flemington on Thursday and that’s the way it panned out at headquarters.

Restricted to grey gallopers, the Swettenham Stud sire was represented by pacemaker Dashalot and the eventual winner Dash For Viz.

Dash For Viz (5g Dash For Cash – Miss Academic by Royal Academy) romped home by three lengths from Chosen To Fly (Choisir) and Emboldened (Footstepsinthesand).

“We always saw the greys race as his grand final,” trainer Robbie Griffths said after his consistent gelding’s soft win.  “I think can develop into a Winter Championship horse next year.”

Dash For Viz (5g Dash For Cash – Miss Academic by Royal Academy) was bred by Melbourne bloodstock agent Peter Ford and is raced by a syndicate that includes Terry and Jenny Mahoney.

He has won 4 races and been placed another 9 times in 14 starts.  The only time he hasn’t returned a cheque was at Mornington in May.

“He’s one of my favourite horses,” jockey Craig Newitt said.  “He was never going to lose.  I sat on the back of the speed and just had to hang on.  When I pushed the go button, he was there for me.”

Dash For Viz is also a favourite back home at Cranbourne.  Griffiths prepared his dam Miss Academic for Terry and Jenny Mahoney who were among his first clients when he started training more than 20 years ago.
