Day 1 Gold Coast Magic Millions – Average rises 9%

The Gold Coast Magic Millions posted increases across the board on Day 1 when a More Than Ready colt and Fastnet Rock filly topped the leader-board at $450,000.

Turnover increased by marginally more than $2 million to $19.40 million while the average rose 9% to $141,606 and the clearance rate went up by 3 points to 80%.

Vinery champion More Than Ready made the early running with a colt from Ringa Ringa Rosie knocked down to Boomer Bloodstock.  “To me he is just so well developed,” successful bidde Craig Rounsefell said.  “He really is like a man among the boys.

“He’s very forward.  So well balanced, correct and with a wonderful temperament.  I hung around his barn all week.  He had many, many parades and just handled it like a pro.

“Obviously, he has the pedigree to back it up.  His mother was a great runner and it’s a great family.  For a first foal he’s so strong and is such an exciting prospect.”

The second $450,000 sale came late in the day when Chris Waller purchased Baramul Stud’s Fastnet Rock filly from Zavana.  “She’s from Gerry Harvey’s draft and he brings his best horses to the Magic Millions,” Waller said.  “It’s a great pedigree going back to Savabeel and Arlington and Fastnet Rock needs no introduction.”

Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said he was delighted with the opening session.  “They are a beautiful set of numbers,” he reported.  “To be at 80 per cent clearance is outstanding on Day 1.

“The median rising from $105,000 to $130,000 was a significant jump.  Half the market is getting $25,000 more than what they did last year.  There’s a good, strong appetite for horses.”

Day 2 will be held at the Gold Coast sales complex on Thursday.
