Day 1 of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale saw figures rise across the board.
The gross soared 25% on last year’s corresponding opening day to $29 million for 158 lots sold. The average climbed 11% to $184,332 and the clearance rate was steady at 80%.
The top selling $800,000 Exceed and Excel – Common Smytzer colt was sold to Hong Kong based George Moore Bloodstock. He was one of 8 youngsters to sell for a half-million dollars or more during a healthy opening session.
“The highlight has to be the big jump in average price,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox reported. “That’s just fantastic.
“The 80% clearance rate and turnover of over $29 million is a good foundation to start the sale. As we know when sales go on they can get stronger, so let’s hope it is the case with this sale.”
