Day 1 Inglis Great Southern Sale – Averages soars 59%

Sunday’s Platinum Foal session at the Inglis Great Southern Sale delivered outstanding figures for vendors at Oaklands Junction.

A total of 141 weanlings averaged $23,550 which was up 59% from last year.  Turnover rose 50% to $3.32 million and the median nearly doubled from $6,000 to $11,000.

“There was an abundance of buyers for the quality weanlings; my only regret is that we didn’t have more,” Inglis Victorian Director Peter Heagney said.  “Pinhookers were extremely active as were investors looking to buy weanlings to retain to race.”

Topping Day 1 was the Fastnet Rock – Festival Princess colt from Erinvale Thoroughbreds.  He was passed in for $140,000 but was later sold privately for $150,000 to New Zealand’s Hyde Park Bloodstock.

Leading buyer after Day 1 was Paul Willetts Bloodstock, who signed for 8 lots on behalf of a range of clients at a total outlay of $391,000.  “I have some clients looking to pinhook and some looking to race,” Willetts said.  “These weanlings will fill a range of purposes.”

Topping his shopping list was the Not A Single Doubt – La Dolce Diva filly for $100,000.  Her dam is a daughter of Makybe Diva.

Willetts also purchased a Stryker – World Exclusive colt from Stonehouse Thoroughbreds for $40,000.  Three Bridges sire Stryker got him from a New Zealand-bred mare World Exclusive who has foaled winners by Stratum and Nicconi.

Day 2 of the Inglis Great Southern Sale will begin at 10.30am on Monday with the remaining Platinum Weanlings (Lots 201 to 259) followed by the General Weanlings (Lots 260 to 354).
