Rosemont Stud topped the first session of the Inglis VOBIS Gold Sale with an $80,000 Snitzel yearling on Sunday.

The colt from Group 2 winning mare Yakama was sold to Lindsay Park Bloodstock.

Next on the leader-board was Swettenham Stud’s Host filly from Sparkling Symphony that made $75,000.  She sold to successful Victorian owners Barrie and Midge Griffiths.

Consistent Victorian sire Written Tycoon achieved the third top price lot with a colt from Group 1 placed mare Danari.  Offered by Eliza Park as agent for Dorrington Farm, he was purchased by Anthony Cavanagh for $70,000.

The demand for quality yearlings was maintained right to the end of the sale when four yearlings in the supplementary section offered by Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm averaged $36,750.

“It was very pleasing to have such a healthy clearance of 83%,” Inglis director Peter Heagney said.  “The market is quite selective as it has been at all sales this year but quality yearlings will always be in demand.”

Rushton Park finished on top of the vendor averages on Sunday.

Owners David and Kayley Johnson sold three lots at an average of $34,000 to head Rosemont Stud ($26,050) and Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm ($21,625) among those vendors with three or more lots to change hands during the Select Session.

Woodside Park manager Suman Hedge paid $40,000 for the Von Costa de Hero colt from Stormy Princess (Tale of the Cat).  He is related to Group 1 winner Miss Margaret and will join the Ellerton – Zahra Racing stables at Flemington.

The Johnsons have been based at Tatura since relocating from Western Australia in 2008.  They also finished second on last year’s leader-board at Inglis Great Southern Foal Sale with a High Chaparral – Infrared colt that made $105,000.

The General Session of the VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale will commence at 11am on Monday.
