The Stratheden Stud dispersal of weanlings highlighted the opening session of the Magic Millions National Sale at the Gold Coast on Wednesday.
Stratheden Stud’s Judy Marheine was very happy with the results achieved for the 19 foals sold. The top priced foal was a Fastnet Rock – Tivoli Dancer colt that made $170,000 to the bid of New Zealand’s Curraghmore Stud.
“We made a commercial decision to sell the horses as weanlings,” Marheine said. “We thought the time was right. Before the sale we sat down and looked at what we might achieve with a good sale – and we did that for sure.”
A Lonhro filly and a More Than Ready filly both sold for $150,000. All 19 weanlings offered by Stratheden were sold – at an average price of over $50,000. The Stratheden Stud dispersal will continue at next week’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
