A Snitzel colt topped the Adelaide Magic Millions yearling sale on Tuesday to the winning bid of New Zealand pin-hooker Mark Treweek.
The Lyndhurst Farm owner paid $140,000 for the colt who was sold by Cornerstone Stud acting as agent for Arrowfield Stud. He’s a half brother to multiple stakes winner Excuse My French from Carnegie mare Trois Couleure.
“He’s a lovely balanced colt and looked great value,” Treweek said. “He has a great colour and a lovely head and eye.
“The colt has a magnificent temperament and Snitzel is a great sire. We’ve been able to buy four yearlings in Adelaide this year and we couldn’t be happier. We’ve found the vendors in Adelaide met the market well.”
The Adelaide yearlings impressed Treweek and his wife Shelley. “We’re really happy with the type of horse that’s been on offer over the past couple of days. You’re always apprehensive heading into a sale and wondering what might be there – but we found it a great sale and also think it’s a good value sale.”
It is the second straight year that a youngster by Snitzel has topped the Adelaide Yearling Sale after subsequent stakes winner Golconda sold for $145,000 twelve months ago.
Book 1 of the sale concluded on Tuesday with more than $6.64 million traded on 207 lots at an average price of $32,100. The clearance rate was up one point to 81%.
Day 3 of the Adelaide Yearling Sale, comprising Book 2, will be held from 10am (SA time) on Wednesday.
