Day 2 Gold Coast Magic Millions – Snitzel Day

A pair of colts by former star sale graduate Snitzel sold for $1.60 million and $1.10 million as the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale continued with another spirited session on Thursday.

After a fierce bidding battle, Gerald Ryan struck on behalf of long time stable client Damion Flower of Jadeskye Racing for the $1.60 million colt from 2006 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Mirror Mirror.

The three-quarter brother to Sydney stakes winner No Looking Back (Redoute’s Choice) was offered by John Singleton’s Strawberry Hill Stud.

“He’s a cracking colt,” Ryan said.  “Damion saw him on video and in photos about five weeks ago and said this is the horse we’re going to have to have.  I saw him first thing on Sunday morning and I reckon he’s the best colt I’ve seen in three years.”

Arrowfield Stud’s $1.10 million brother to G1 Galaxy winner Sweet Idea was purchased by New Zealand based bloodstock agent Dean Hawthorne.  They are from the stakes performed mare Flidais.

“He’s a beautiful colt,” Hawthorne said.  “We thought we might not have to go that high but we were ready.  Team Hawkes is going to train and there’s a big syndicate behind him.”

After two sessions, the sale has grossed over $65.71 million for 344 lots at an average of $191,031.  The clearance rate is up 7 points to 89%.

Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said it was fitting that Day 2 should be dominated by a former star graduate of the sale who is now establishing himself as one of the nation’s best sires.

“It was Snitzel Day,” Cox said.  “We knew the top priced colt would sell well but even John (Singleton) had no expectation that his colt would make anything near $1.10 million.”
