A Flying Spur colt topped Day 2 of the Magic Millions Horses in Training Sale at the Gold Coast on Wednesday.

Eliza Park International owner Ting Kong Cheng bought the session leader for $220,000 from Kenmore Lodge.  The colt is from Doomben winner Rock on Bye and she is a half-sister to Brisbane stakes winner Zero Rock (Danzero).

“He’s a colt we really liked,” Cheng said. “He is by a very successful sire and our team thought he was very athletic.”

The colt was one of 9 individual lots to sell for six figures on Wednesday but none could surpass the Dreamscape colt that sold to Hawkes Racing for $310,000 on Tuesday.

Over the two sessions of the sale, $6.43 million was traded on 150 lots at an increased average of $42,870.  The overall clearance rate was down 7 points to 62%.

“We were very happy with the cross section of the buying bench,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox reported.  “The market was very polarised.  If you had the right product there was great competition.

“Obviously we’re very disappointed with the clearance rate, however the average price was up on last year and that is a positive.

The Magic Millions Spring Sale will be conducted at the Gold Coast on Thursday.
