A Lonhro filly sold for a record $710,000 at the Magic Millions National weanling sale on Monday.

The session-topper is from stakes winning mare True Blonde and was offered by Segenhoe Stud.  She was purchased by leading Sydney based bloodstock agent James Harron after a duel with New Zealand based agent Michael Wallace.

It was the highest price ever paid for a weanling filly at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.

“She’s a fantastic filly,” Harron said.  “It’s one of the best families in Australia and we’re fans of Lonhro.  She handled the sale process really well and was very relaxed.  We’re delighted to secure her.”

The progeny of exciting first season sire Foxwedge were popular again with his daughter of Group 1 winner The Party Stand selling for the day’s second top price of $350,000.  Offered by Newgate Farm, the filly was purchased by Segenhoe Stud.

Foxwedge also provided the day’s third top priced seller when Rothwell Park’s filly from Sleepy Hollow sold to New Zealand’s Michael Wallace and Prima Park Bloodstock for $235,000.

A total of 34 lots sold at six figure prices over the two days of the foal sale and that helped boost the aggregate to over $15.24 million – up 78% on last year’s figures.

The average price of $43,559 also climbed over 20% and the 87% clearance rate was on a par with 2013.  “It’s been a staggering two days,” Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox reported.  “There’s a robust appetite for weanlings and the Australian bloodstock industry is  extremely healthy.”
