A Street Cry colt from stakes winning mare Jersey Lily has topped the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale at $240,000.
Consigned by Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud, the attractive chestnut was knocked down during Wednesday’s second-session of yearlings to New Zealand’s Wexford Stable. His dam Jersey Lily (Catbird) won the Wiggle Hcp in Sydney and Maybe Mahal Stakes in Melbourne.
Aussies struck with the second top seller of the day – Attunga Stud’s Written Tycoon – Littlemiss Sandown colt- who sold for $220,000.
A half-brother to Adelaide Group performer Baligari, he was purchased by Caloundra based horseman David Vandyke in conjunction with Sydney’s Darby Racing.
Vandyke also snapped up Wednesday’s top selling filly by O’Reilly from Ininthree (Generous) for $200,000. She is from a daughter of champion producer Parfore and was presented by Bhima Thoroughbreds on behalf of Middlebrook Valley Lodge.
Milburn Creek’s Not a Single Doubt colt from Dreaming of You was next best at $210,000. He’s a half-brother to four winners from the family of Sir John Hawkwood and has a new home in Victoria with John McArdle’s Redgum Racing.
The last ever Encosta de Lago yearling to be offered at auction – Baramul Stud’s chestnut colt son of Zabeel mare Iron Rose – attracted plenty of bids and sold to New Zealand’s Regal Farm for $175,000.
An incredible buying bench was on hand to return record figures across the board with over $13.32 million traded over two sessions. Book 1 averaged $48,045 at a clearance rate of 86%.
Book 2 averaged $11,682 at an 81% clearance rate. Top price was $75,000 for a Show A Heart – Scarlet Tanager colt offered by Mishani Enterprises of Beaudesert. His dam is a winning half-sister to Group 1 winners Universal Prince and Universal Queen.
