Day 3 Gold Coast Magic Millions – Five Millionaires

Five individual lots sold for $1 million or more during a stunning session at the Gold Coast on Friday.

I Am Invincible topped the leader-board with a colt from Electric Dreams that made $1.90 million.  “He’s a very, very special colt,” successful buyer James Harron noted.  “He’s very precocious and handled the sale brilliantly.”

The partnership of Reg Inglis, Jon Kelly and Paul Frampton bought the top-priced filly for the auction when they purchased Sweet Idea’s sister for $1.80 million.

The Snitzel filly was presented by Arrowfield Stud and is also a sister to Showtime (G2 Bill Stutt Stakes).  “She has terrific residual value as a broodmare,” Kelly said.  “I didn’t think the price was going to be that high but the prices and clearance rate have gone up.”

Earlier in the afternoon, Jadeskye Racing’s Damion Flower went to $1.45 million to secure an I Am Invincible colt from G1 Thousand Guineas winner Commanding Jewel.   His dam is a half-sister to Atlantic Jewel and was offered by Vinery Stud on behalf of breeder Greg Perry.

“I Am Invincible yearlings are making big money,” Flower said.  “His athleticism was a stand-out and bviously he’s very well related.”

Bhima Thoroughbreds sold a Pierro – Dance Card colt for $1.05 million while Arrowfield Stud offered a Redoute’s Choice – Cat By The Tale colt for $1 million.

Day 3 saw $47 million of trade helping push the overall sale gross to over $137 million – already surpassing last year’s four day total of $134.3 million.  The clearance rate has continued to grow over the sale and now sits at an outstanding 88%.

The current sale average price is $229,753 – well up from last year’s comparison of $208,824.

“It was quite spectacular,” Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox said.  “We thought we might have got one or two, but five is just a massive result.  The depth of the sale is fantastic.”
