Pierro filled the top two spots on the Day 3 leaderboard at the Gold Coast Magic Millions with a $1.50 million colt and a $1.40 million filly.

Headlining Friday’s trade was the Pierro half-brother to Group 1 winners Vancouver (Golden Slipper St) and Juste Momente (Robert Sangster St).

Consigned by Segenhoe Stud on behalf of Fairway Thoroughbreds, the Pierro – Skates yearling attracted a flurry of bids before Coolmore Australia snared the prized colt.  “He’s a great mover and he reminds me a lot of Vancouver,” Coolmore’s Tom Magnier said.  “That’s what drew us to the horse and we knew we would have to pay for him.”

Earlier in the day, Coolmore Stud sold the Pierro – Monsoon Wedding filly for $1.40 million.  She is from a sister to Redoute’s Choice and was secured by James Harron and Hubie De Burgh.

“She’s got a huge, huge page and it’s hard to get into these families,” Harron said.  “There is a massive amount of residual value with her.”

Harron also secured the session’s third million-dollar sale – the Snitzel colt from the stakes winning Elusive Quality mare Nocturnelle offered by Arrowfield Stud.

By the end of Friday’s session on the Gold Coast, turnover reached $102.76 million which is up 32% on last year’s sale.  The average of $200,312 represents a 20% increase on 2015 and the clearance rate rose 5 points to 88%.
