Records tumbled across the board at the conclusion of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on Friday.
Zouzou headed Day 3 trade when Coolmore Stud’s Tom Magnier went to $775,000 to secure the dam of Group 1 star Zouzou.
Presented by Kulani Park in foal to All Too Hard, Zouzou will most likely head to Pierro after she foals down in the spring. “There’s a great pedigree there and we know how good Zoustar was,” Magnier said. “We have a host of horses at home we could use for her. She’s a lovely mare and was beautifully presented.”
The second priced top seller was Sydney and Melbourne Group winner Solar Charged. Parading as the last lot of the day on the Gold Coast, she was presented by Vinery Stud as agent for Peter Horwitz and was purchased by Widden Stud and Qatar Bloodstock for $650,000. She will go to Zoustar.
The Broodmare Sale turnover of $69.03 million was a record and was up 131% on last year. The average price jumped 81% to another record of $129,756.
The buyers list was led by Newgate Farm with 7 lots for over $6.22 million. Other big spenders this week included Coolmore Stud ($5.19 million), Dean Hawthorne ($4.01 million) and James Harron ($3.21 million).
“It’s been the most remarkable three days,” Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox said. “The market has been strong throughout, particularly on the better quality lots. Vendors and buyers alike were here to conduct business.”
The National Sale continues on Sunday with a General Broodmare Sale before moving to the National Yearling Sale on Wednesday.
