The Inglis Broodmare & Weanling Sale concluded on Wednesday with turnover in excess of $34.50 million – the best result in six years.
The record-breaking four-day auction came to a close with regally-bred Comaneci (High Chaparral) making $780,000 to the bid of James Harron Bloodstock. She was sold in foal to Fastnet Rock.
Comaneci is a winning daughter of G1 AJC Oaks winner Circles Of Gold and is a half-sister to Group 1 winners Elvstroem and Haradasun.
Haiku (Encosta de Lago) was second on Wednesday’s leader-board when making $580,000 on behalf of Coolmore Stud and China Horse Club. She has foaled G1 Coolmore Stakes winner Japonisme and was sold in foal Dissident.
“She will go to Vancouver this year,” Coolmore Stud’s Michael Kirwan revealed. “This mare has bred a world-class sprinter in Japonisme already and I understand that he might be bound for Royal Ascot in 2017. She’s a beautiful mare, by a fantastic broodmare sire and she will suit Vancouver perfectly.”
Spendthrift Australian added to its shopping list with Forever Discreet (Bernardini) heading to Victoria for $520,000. The LR Morphettville Guineas winner was sold in foal to Deep Field.
“The results reflect overwhelming confidence on the state of breeding in Australia,” Inglis director Jonathan D’Arcy said. “It’s especially pleasing to see international investors participating through their Australian-based businesses, with farms and breeders refreshing their bloodstock and investing in the future.”
