Hollywood Park stakes winner American Lady headed a subdued Day 4 at Keeneland’s November Sale at $350,000.
“It’s a selective sale,” Nicoma Bloodstock’s Headley Bell said. “It’s just what the market is and really there are no complaints. As a seller, you hope you have the goods. As a buyer you’re kind of specific about what’s available.”
American Lady (Stormy Atlantic) was offered as a racing or broodmare prospect by Kaleem Shah after a career so far that has garnered three wins topped by the LR Reminiscing Stakes. The four year-old grey mare was purchased by Kentucky nursery Castleton Lyons.
“We haven’t quite decided yet whether she will remain in training,” said Gabriel Duignan who is a director of Castleton Lyons. “We will look at her x-rays again and make a final decision shortly.”
American Lady is a half sister to The Pamplemousse (Kafwain). He was a G3 winner of the Sham Stakes and San Rafael Stakes in 2009. “She’s outstanding physically and comes from a family with a lot of talent,” Duignan added. “We were stretching on her. Her price was retail.”
Keeneland officials reported Day 4 turnover of $18.56 million on Friday. The average increased 5% to $82,891 but the clearance rate dropped 6 points to 71%.
The Keeneland November Sale continues through to November 16.
