Wangaratta trainer John Ledger is no stranger to making successful cross-border raids into NSW and South Australia and he will saddle Day Out in the Riverina Co-Operative Open Hcp at Wagga (Race 8 at 5.00pm AEDT) this afternoon.
Ledger had accepted but scratched stable star Mind Your Head in the same race. The Mujahid gelding is being set to win his second Christmas Handicaps at Caulfield on Boxing Day. “He’s come up very well and had a hit-out at Benalla last Monday,” Ledger said. “He put four lengths on them and won the trial easily.
Day Out (7g Dangerous – Maggie’s Day by Blazing Sword) is a winner of 7 from 18 and will be racing first up off a 27-week break. “Day Out is under-estimated horse,” Ledger said. “I’ve got him going as good as ever and we will try and win a Listed race with him in Sydney over the Christmas-New Year period. I’m very happy with him. He’s got a wing on every foot and we all know how well he goes first-up.”
Day Out is by Greta West Stud stallion Dangerous and is one of three winners for the city performed Maggie’s Day. Second dam Moon Scent (Aloe) foaled the five time G1 winner Planet Ruler (Kaoru Star).
