Cornerstone Stud’s first-season sire De Beers opened his account with Heavens Shout at Port Lincoln on Tuesday. The locally trained youngster won on debut in the Magic Millions Maiden Plate (1000m).
Heavens Shout (2g De Beers – Kiss Angel by Euclase) was always in charge after jumping to a clear lead. Prepared by Simon Drewitt, he was four lengths in front at the top of the straight and cruised home for a convincing victory.
He defeated Host With The Most (Host), Deep Blue (Planchet) and stablemate Debeersonus (De Beers) who ran on nicely for fourth.
The only other starters from his first crop of 43 foals have been Morphettville placegetter Rappers Delight and Whitten’s Brew who finished sixth in the LR Emirates Plate at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.
De Beers (NZ) was a Randwick juvenile winner and he returned at three to finish a neck second to Racing to Win in the G2 Hobartville Stakes. In the autumn, he won the G1 Rosehill Guineas and followed up with a gallant second to Headturner in the G1 AJC Derby.
De Beers is a son of former Woodlands Stud shuttler Quest For Fame and is a member of the illustrious Eight Carat family. He stands for a $4,950 (inc gst) service fee at Cornerstone Stud.
Heavens Shout was a $9,500 buy from Kirkliston Stud at the 2011 Adelaide Magic Millions. His dam Kiss Angel has also foaled the minor winners Sovereign Blaze (Fraar) and King Buddy (Jeune King Prawn). She foaled a colt by Glenrae Stud sire Danbird in November.
