Deceased sire off the Marc at Gold Coast

Deceased Racetree stallion Top Marc sired his first winner at the Gold Coast on Saturday.   His grey colt Barrassie Brother scored by nearly five lengths in the Jim Hook Plate (1200m).

Barrassie Brother (3c Top Marc – Move It Or Lose It by Desert Sun) is prepared by Kelly Schweida and started a $2.60 favourite at his first start after a five month spell.

Schweida also trained Top Marc (Canadian Silver) to 12 wins and $418,000 in prizemoney headed by a Listed victory in the Glasshouse Hcp at the Sunshine Coast.

Top Marc died suddenly from a heart attack at Racetree in November 2010.  “He was a tough old bugger,” Schweida recalled.  “But he was also the best natured entire I’ve ever seen.”

Top Marc served a total of 72 mares at a $3,300 fee in his first three years at Racetree.  Barrassie Brother is one of just four runners to date from his first crop.
