Design delivers for Payne

Master Of Design appears to have found himself a permanent home with David Payne’s in Sydney after earlier campaigns in Melbourne and Perth.

Master Of Design (5h Redoute’s Choice – Urge To Merge by Last Tycoon) won the Alpha Flight Services (1100m) at his first start for Payne at Rosehill on Saturday.  The stallion unleashed a withering sprint to nail the favourite Unanimously by a short half-head.

“He is a very serious racehorse and we will look at some serious races with him,” Payne said.  “He has been at my place for three months but isn’t 100% wound up yet.  He’s still a bull and his value will increase if he can win a stakes race.”

Master Of Design is a son of champion sire Redoute’s Choice and is a half-brother to G1 Greyville Champion Stakes winner Suntagonal (Octagonal).

Their dam Urge To Merge is a sister to Champion South African filly Tracy’s Element and leading NZ sire Towkay.  She is also a half-sister to the Danehill stakes winners Cullen and Danasinga.

Tracy’s Element is the dam of Australian Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy (Red Ransom).

Master Of Design cost Sheikh Mohammed $2.1 million from the Arrowfield draft at the 2007 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  He won races at Seymour, Ballarat and Moonee Valley before transferring to Adam Durrant in Perth.

He is now raced by a syndicate that includes Fremantle Dockers coach Mark Harvey.  He won at Belmont prior to the new owners sending him back east earlier this year.
