Controversial Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov has purchased Green Destiny for a tilt at the G1 Dubai World Cup.
Green Destiny (5g Marju – Mubkera by Nashwan) has already arrived in the Gulf and will start first-up in Round 3 of the Maktoum Challenge on Super Saturday. “He will leave quarantine next week,” trainer Herman Brown said. “He was highly progressive last year and it would be nice to think he has not stopped improving.”
Formerly trained by William Haggas, Green Destiny captured the John Smith’s Cup Heritage Hcp at York in July and then added Group 3 wins at York and Newbury. He ended the year with a late-running sixth in the Group 1 Champion Stakes at Ascot.
Kadyrov purchased Gitano Hernando just prior to the Dubai World Cup last year. The Hernando horse finish sixth behind Japan’s Victoire Pisa but paid his way with a G1 triumph in the Singapore International Cup.
Bookmakers rate Green Destiny a 20-1 chance for the Dubai World Cup.
