Snitzel is on his way to a record-breaking season in the juvenile division and the winners kept ticking over when Exceeds scored second-up at Randwick on Saturday.

Exceeds is from a half-sister to G1 Epsom Hcp winner Rock Kingdom and she was a $250,000 buy for DGR Thoroughbreds (FBAA) at the 2016 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

DGR agent Duncan Ramage was acting for a partnership headed by Think Big Stud owner Dato Tan Chin Nam.  “We haven’t gone out to buy a 2yo for a long time,” Ramage revealed.  “Dato said to he wanted one to race with some friends and this is the horse.

“We tried to get into the Magic Millions and now the Golden Slipper is on the agenda.  When you buy a horse like her and she wins a race early, you are always thinking about the Slipper.”

Exceeds is trained by James Cummings and she became 16th individual 2yo winner by Snitzel this season.  He’s on target to break his own record of 30 individual winners set in 2016-17.

Ramage and Cummings had combined to win with well-bred 3yo Gauguin at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.  He’s by Dalghar from G1 Thornden Mile winner Macavelli Miss (Vettori) and is a half-brother to South African Group 1 winner Mac de Lago.

“Clearly, he’s got plenty to learn but he’s promising and we think he will get over a trip,” Cummings said.  “There’s a good plan in place for the autumn including the Australian Derby.”

Gauguin was an $85,000 buy at 2016 NZB Karaka Premier yearling sale for Ramage and races for a syndicate that includes Think Big Stud, Sir Patrick Hogan, Gooree Stud, John & Anne McDonnell, Matthew Sandblom and Julia Ritchie.

“Duncan got together a group of people to invest in stayers and Gauguin was one of the yearlings we bought,” Cummings added.  “Hopefully, he can keep stepping up and delivering.”

Ramage went back to the Gold Coast Magic Millions earlier this month and bought 5 yearlings at an average of $245,000.  Top-price was the $475,000 Foxwedge sister to Flemington stakes winner Kentucky Miss.
