Secret Savings mare Samar was back in the spotlight when her smart filly Samaready won the VRC Spotless Plate (1000m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Samaready (2f More Than Ready – Samar by Secret Savings) impressed trainer Mick Price on debut down the straight course. “There’s a lot of improvement in her,” he said. “She’s a genuinely good filly and we will be pointing her to the Blue Diamond.”
A homebred for Vinery Stud, she is by its champion resident More Than Ready from a half-sister to G1 stayer County Tyrone (Danewin).
Samaready is the fourth foal for Samar. Her first two by Lucky Owners and Conatus were minor winners before lifting to another level with her third live foal Night War.
Night War (General Nediym) was WA Champion 2YO for 2011-12 after winning the G2 Karrakatta Plate. She returned with a magnificent victory in the G3 Lee-Steere Classic at Ascot on December 10.
Samar won races at Canterbury and Randwick as a spring three year-old in 2002. Gerry Harvey bought her for $28,000 from Emirates Park owner Nassar Lootah in 2004.
Harvey has the mare’s Northern Meteor yearling filly and she foaled a Testa Rossa filly in September.
More Than Ready colt Cambiaso captured the LR Maribyrnong Trial Stakes at Flemington in October and he is also being aimed at the Blue Diamond. The Danny O’Brien trained colt will emulate Sepoy if he graduates to the Group 1 at Caulfield in February.
More Than Ready already has top colt Faustus being set for the 2012 Golden Slipper. He was eligible for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic but trainer John O’Shea has elected to give him time off after an exciting debut win at Rosehill last month.
Vinery champion More Than Ready sired Magic Millions winners Sebring and Phelan Ready and they both franked the Gold Coast form in consecutive Golden Slippers.
