Diamonds are trumps at Vinery

Exciting filly Samaready stepped up to Group 1 company with a super impressive victory in the MRC Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Samaready (2f More Than Ready – Samar by Secret Savings) proved she was clearly the best horse in the race galloping away to a three length victory over No Looking Back (Redoute’s Choice) and Armed For Action (Exceed And Excel).

Top Melbourne trainer Mick Price was especially pleased with the victory after winning the 2003 Blue Diamond with Roedean only to lose the race in controversial circumstances when that filly returned positive.  “Mission accomplished,” Price said as Craig Newitt brought the winner back to scale.  “She’s had a perfect preparation and now I’ve got to keep her up for the Golden Slipper.”

Bred by Gerry Harvey, Samaready was sold by Vinery Stud at the 2011 Inglis Easter yearling sale for $150,000.  She had won the VRC Spotless Plate (1000m) at Flemington and G3 Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield leading into the $1 million event.

More Than Ready has the first two in the market for the Golden Slipper at Rosehill on April 7.  Samaready is the $4.80 favourite with TAB Sportsbet ahead of More Than Ready’s unbeaten Sydney colt Raceway ($6.50).

Vinery’s Champion stallion has already sired Golden Slipper winners Sebring and Phelan Ready.  His Blue Diamond winner is a younger half-sister to top-class Perth filly Night War (General Nediym) who has won the G2 Karrakatta Plate, G3 Lee-Steere Classic and WA Magic Millions 3YO Trophy in the last twelve months.

More Than Ready has four lots to be offered at the Melbourne Premier yearling sale next week and another 30 catalogued for the Inglis Easter yearling sale in April.
