Lynhurst Stud sire Sequalo cracked the 100 winner mark for the season a week ago and he inched closer to reaching 200 wins when Diazling scored a narrow victory in the Leslie Short Memorial at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Sequalo broke the century barrier when Reonmay broke a losing streak at Wondai on Saturday, July 17.  A week later Diazling helped stretch his strike-rate to 104 individual winners of 196 races this season.

Diazling (3f Sequalo – Miss Diaz by Success Express) is trained by Luke Oliver at Caulfield and he bought her for $23,000 at the 2008 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale.

“I went to the Gold Coast that year with only enough money to buy one horse,” Oliver said after his filly held off The Night’s Hot (Regal Shot) at the Valley.  “She’s the first yearling I ever bought and I’ve always had a soft spot for her.”

Diazling showed above average ability from the outset.  She won on debut at Horsham late last year and, after a six month spell, returned to action with promising thirds at Seymour and Sandown.  “Diazling is pretty effective on wet tracks and so was her mother,” Oliver said.  “She will have a light summer prep. so we can concentrate on another winter campaign next year.”

Diazling’s dam Miss Diaz was trained by Geni Gillis to win five races up to 2400m including three on heavy tracks at Sandown.  She is from a family developed by Ken Cox at Stockwell Stud that produced 1973 Golden Slipper winner Tontonan.

Lyndhurst will stand Sequalo for a $17,600 (inc gst) service fee in 2010.
