Don Jose – Bred To Win – Thursday, 5 November 2009

Lightly raced colt Don Jose can collect his first black-type at Flemington this afternoon in the Listed Myer Spring Fashion Stakes (Race 7 at 3.40pm AEDT).

Trainer Mick Prince has been patient with the son of Elvstroem who made a winning debut at Geelong in September.  Price kept raising the bar and the colt responded with placings behind Spacecraft over 1600 at Moonee Valley and Caulfield.  He finished like an extra furlong would suit last time and Price has found an 1800m event on Oaks Day that looks ideal.

Don Jose (3c Elvstroem-Carmenesque by Scenic) was a $160,000 buy at the 2008 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.  He is the third winner for the stakes placed Carmenesque, who has also foaled Listed VRC Chester Manifold Stakes winner Umaquest (Umatilla).

Don Jose hails from the family of Group 1 winners Defier (Dehere) and Demerger (Salthor).
