Double century for King Of Prussia

King Of Prussia enhanced his reputation as King of the Country Cups after Naratel won the $100,000 Alice Springs Cup on Monday.

The Cup was a milestone for the Greta West Stud stallion.  He has now sired the winners of 200 races in Australia and they have arrived a 57% strike-rate.

Naratel made the successful hit-and-run raid from Adelaide to the Red Centre with trainer Phillip Stokes.  They will return to the Top End for a tilt at the $180,000 Darwin Cup in August.

“I knew I had the race won at the 600m pole,” jockey Dom Tourneur said at the Pioneer Park presentation.  “He was travelling much better than the others and once I let him go he just lengthened and continued to find the line.”

Naratel (6g King Of Prussia – Princess Kara by Our Poetic Prince) has turned out a great money-spinner for owners David and Nell Brook.  He was a $6,500 graduate of the Greta West draft at the 2006 Adelaide Magic Millions yearling sale.

Besides a city success at Morphettville, the ghostly grey has also won the Barossa Cup at Gawler and the Port Augusta Cup while banking over $156,000 in prizemoney.

He is the penultimate foal of the Chris Parry trained mare Princess Kara who won races at Caulfield, Sandown and Moonee Valley.

Naratel’s share of Monday’s prizemoney took King Of Prussia’s earnings to within $30,000 of breaking the $3 million barrier.

King Of Prussia is also the sire of NSW Cups King Prussian Secret who has won the Wellington, Guyra, Armidale, Coonamble and Quirindi Cups in the last 12 months.

Prussian Secret is trained by Leon Davies at Tamworth and he also travelled to town for an Eagle Farm victory late last year.

Apart from the 200 wins in Australia, King Of Prussia also has 25 off-shore wins on the board.  His Hong Kong based gelding King Of Scots won the CUHK Alumni Cup at Sha Tin in March and champion jockey Dougie Whyte reckons he’s not done with yet.

King Of Prussia (Anabaa) stands at Greta West alongside Dangerous (Danehill) and Man Of Illusion (Encosta de Lago).
