Dick Turpin’s first southern foals at Mungrup Stud are receiving the same approval rating as their counterparts in England.
The Dick Turpins are the pick of the crop at the English National Stud in Newmarket. “His first foals are cracking lookers,” National Stud spokesman Nicholas Wrigley said in April. “It will be a couple of years before they hit the racecourse and, in the meantime, we can dream.”
Photographer Ann Croucher snapped this upstanding Dick Turpin colt from Matilda Waltz two days after he was foaled at Mungrup.
Matilda Waltz (Jevington) has been a wonderful producer for Mungrup’s Williamson family with G1 Railway Stakes winner Old Fashion (Metal Storm) the best of her four winners.
The mare’s latest winner Miss Omeresa (Danehill Express) doubled up in 3yo company at Pinjarra in January for Perth Cup winning trainer Graham Ballantyne.
Matilda Waltz’s current 3yo is unraced filly Ore (Oratorio) and she has a yearling filly by Due Sasso.
Dick Turpin covered 88 mares at Mungrup last year and his service fee remains the same at $8,800 (inc gst) in 2013.
