Darley sire Dubawi was represented by his first northern hemisphere winner this year when Ostentation scored by a length over 1600m at Lingfield on Tuesday.

Ostentation (3g Dubawi – Oshiponga by Barathea) was racing first-up since November and led all the way to defeat Rock A Doodle Doo (Oratorio).

Dubawi, a G1 winning son of Dubai Millennium, was a runaway winner of the European first-season sires’ premiership for winners last year.  He notched 34 to finish well ahead of fellow Darley shuttler Shamardal but had not improved his tally since Dutiful scored at Wolverhampton on November 28.

Europe’s all-weather tracks have been snowbound in recent weeks which hasn’t helped, however, Dubawi has made an immediate impact on another front in the southern hemisphere.

Cellarmaster (2c Dubawi – Oenology by Sound Reason) has led the way with wins in the Listed Wentwood Grange Stakes at Te Rapa and the G3 Eclipse Stakes at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day.  

Ostentation also has the scope to make the grade in black-type company.  He is prepared by leading trainer Mark Johnson for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed and was a 95,000gns buy as a foal at Tattersalls in November 2007.

Ostentation is a half-brother to Godolphin globe-trotter Hatta Fort.  A Cape Cross colt, he was trained by Saeed bin Suroor to win the 2007 Superlative Stakes (G2) at Newmarket before crossing the Atlantic to claim the 2008 Perryville Stakes (G3) at Keeneland.

Resuming in Dubai this time last year, Hatta Fort added the Marju Trophy to his record before running a close second to South African sprinter JJ The Jet Plane in the G3 Al Quoz Sprint at Nad al Sheba.
