Dubawi opened his account in Dubai this season with well-bred maiden winner Maath Gool on Thursday night.
Maath Gool (3g DubawI – My First Romance by Danehill) became the Darley stallion’s first winner in the UAE with a three length victory in the Meydan Shiba (1400m). He is trained by Musabah Al Muhairi for Jaber Abdullah.
Maath Gool looks a horse with a future after coming from midfield to lead with a furlong remaining last night. “He is a nice type and it’s great when we can win with a young unraced horse,” winning jockey Wayne Smith said. “Hopefully, he has more to offer.”
The Meydan winner was bred by Bearstone Stud and cost Rabbah Bloodstock 62,000 guineas at the Tattersalls October yearling sale in 2008. He is a half-brother to Romantic Myth (Mind Games) and Romantic Liaison (Primo Dominie) who both won editions of the G3 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Their dam My First Romance is a half-sister to the dam of LR Tauranga Classic winner Sacha (Keeper).
Dubawi has now sired 127 winners of 240 races and they have arrived at a 61% strike-rate. His winners have saluted in 15 countries and include Lost Cause (GB) who has won in nearby Qatar. He was originally trained by Roger Charlton before changing hands for 11,000 guineas at Tattersalls in October 2009.
