Darley shuttler Dubawi continued his surge at the top of the European first-season sires’ premiership for winners when Super Dubai scored a half-length victory in Naples on Thursday.
It took the Dubawi winner tally to 33 in Europe this year and he is homing in on the freshman record of 35 individual winners held by former Chatswood Stud shuttler Invincible Spirit.
Super Dubai (2c Dubawi – Credit A Plenty by Generous) was a 20,000gns buy for Bozzi Bloodstock acting for owner Antonio Bosco at the 2008 Tattersalls October yearling sale. He comes from the family of Great Voltigeur winner Stowaway and obviously appreciated stepping up to 1800 metres for the first time in the Costa Concordia yesterday.
His dam Credit A Plenty was trained by John Dunlop and, after winning her maiden at Haydock Park, was G3 placed in the 1999 Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster.
Dubawi first northern crop includes Godolphin’s G2 winners Poet’s Voice (Champagne Stakes) and Sand Vixen (Flying Childers) and he got off the mark in the southern hemisphere when Cellarmaster (2c Dubawi – Oenology by Sound Reason) scored at Otaki on November 12.
Dubawi (Dubai Millenium) was a G1 winner of the National Stakes at the Curragh during an unbeaten juvenile campaign and he returned at three to add Group 1 victories in the Irish 2000 Guineas and Prix Jacques le Marois.
Dubawi sired 80 foals from his first Australian crop and www.sportingbet.com.au has priced him at $11 to win the premiership for individual winners in 2009-10.
