Planet Rock extended her lead in NZ Bloodstock’s Filly of the Year Series with a decisive win in the G3 Lowland Stakes (2100m) at Hawke’s Bay on Saturday.
The Hastings feature was the penultimate leg of the 10 race Series. The Fastnet Rock filly has now earned 26 points and is well clear of her nearest rival Capital Diamond on 15 points.
Planet Rock was taken to the lead in the back straight by jockey Damian Browne and that was the last the field saw of the filly who is trained by Peter and Dawn Williams. She kicked clear on the corner and held off a determined effort from Capital Diamond to win by three lengths.
Planet Rock is an equal $5 favourite for the final leg in the G1 New Zealand Oaks on March 17. She shares top billing with NZ Derby winner Silent Achiever who is an unlikely runner.
Dutch owner Ger Beemsterboer purchased her from Wellfield Lodge at NZ Bloodstock’s 2010 Karaka Premier Sale for $290,000. She has now won 5 of her 11 starts and almost $400,000 in stakes.
Beemsterboer was back in action at the Karaka Sales last month securing Cambridge Stud’s filly by Zabeel from La Quinta Gold for $600,000.
