Greta West Stud has backed Royal Ascot Group 1 winner Toronado (Ire) since he began shuttling to Swettenham Stud and that support paid off at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale on Monday.

The Greta West colt by Toronado from No Vanity (Keep The Faith) paraded as Lot 326 and was sold for $200,000 through the consignment from Bucklee Farm.  He was targeted by Caulfield trainer Henry Dwyer who will be transferring his team to Ballarat next month.

The Toronado colt (pictured) is a half-brother to Flemington Group performer Clarice Cliffs (Canford Cliffs) and last year’s Kyneton maiden winner Solomon (Street Boss).

“I’ve got heaps of time for Toronado – he’s siring winner after winner and, at that rate, I think we will be lucky to keep him in Victoria,” Dwyer said.  “This colt is a terrific type and is from a great Victorian family.

“The dam has done well and going to Toronado will upgrade the pedigree considering the sires she’s been covered by so far.”

The only other Oaklands entrant from Greta West owners Laurie and John McCarthy was the Holler – Hai Lil colt that sold for $90,000 to Rosehill-based Blake Ryan on Tuesday.

From the first crop of Darley’s G1 Canterbury Stakes winner Holler (Commands), he’s the second foal of multiple Melbourne winner Hai Lil (Churchill Downs).  The mare delivered a Toronado colt in October.

Greta West has catalogued a Master Of Design half-sister to Free Of Debt for the Adelaide Magic Millions.  He will be sold by Phoenix Farm (as agent) and has been catalogued as Lot 109 next Tuesday, March 10.

Free Of Debt (Unencumbered) resumed from a long spell to finish second in the G3 Manfred Stakes at Caulfield last month and he holds black-type nominations for Melbourne and Adelaide over the Labour Day long-weekend on March 7 and 9.
