Under The Eiffel maintained the French theme when he rounded off Melbourne Cup day with a resounding victory in the VRC 7News Plate (1400m).
The Tony Vasil trained gelding left bookmakers lamenting when he ran over the top of tearaway leader Hood to score by a half-length at Flemington.
Under The Eiffel (4g Mossman – Spire by Danehill) has now won 5 of his 13 starts and he landed a plunge as the $3.90 favourite on Tuesday. “He had 59kg which is plenty of weight to carry,” Vasil said. “He was a convincing winner on Seymour Cup day and took plenty of improvement from that first-up performance.”
Under The Eiffel is a younger half-brother to four-time winner Alright Already (More Than Ready) and their dam Spire has a 2yo colt by Lonhro and yearling colt by Authorized. The Mossman – Danehill cross has also produced the stakes performers Hoofit and Mossriver.
Mossman (Success Express) stands for a $27,500 (inc gst) service fee at Vinery.
