Media personality Michael Christian created headlines of his own when Eloping won the LR Blue Diamond Fillies Preview (1000m) at Caulfield.
Eloping (2f Choisir – Runaway Jesse by Rory’s Jester) was bred at Christian’s Saconi Thoroughbreds in Whittlesea. She had bolted in at Bendigo in December and overcame a slow start to run away from her rivals second time out o Saturday.
“Once in front, she switched off and did it pretty easily,” jockey Stephen Baster said. “She’s a natural two-year-old and is still on the way up.”
Bookmakers immediately firmed the flashy filly into the fourth line of Group 1 Blue Diamond markets at $15.
Christian bred Eloping and she sold for $120,000 at the 2013 Gold Coast Magic Millions. Her older sister Jessie’s Girl had won at Sandown and was Group placed at Eagle Farm, Moonee Valley and Caulfield.
Their three-quarter sister by Starspangledbanner was catalogued for this month’s Gold Coast Magic Millions. Christian catalogued her through Anthony Mithen’s Rosemont Stud consignment and she made $170,000 to the bid of trainer Mark Riley.
Their dam Runaway Jesse was among Sepoy’s first book at Darley last year.
