Group 1 sprinter Equiano made his first public appearance since leaving quarantine at Swettenham Stud’s annual stallion parade on Sunday.
Equiano (Fr) and Swettenham’s roster of Master of Design, Dash For Cash, Bianconi (USA), Host (Chi), Kaphero and Soldier’s Tale (USA) attracted a large turn-out at Adam Sangster’s Nagambie nursery.
“Equiano has settled in without any worries since arriving last week,” Sangster said. “It’s his second year here and the signs are very encouraging. He covered over 90 mares last year and should top a century this time.”
The first Swettenham-bred foals by Equiano were also on show and they impressed breeders like legendary horseman George Smith who was in charge of Stockwell Stud during its halcyon days of champion stallion Showdown.
Smith has as a good an eye for a young horse as anyone in the country and getting his seal of approval is a huge plus for Equiano and his foals.
